Pusha T said in a Spotify interview that Kendrick wanted to do two songs for the album God Sort 'Em Out. One of them turned to be "Chains & Whips", while the other one ended up being "So Be It". Pusha T confirms that he sent Kendrick open verses for "So Be It" alongside "Chains & Whips" to Kendrick, "Chains & Whips", however, ending up being the song Kendrick sent a verse back for, possibly meaning that there is a version of "So Be It" that Kendrick recorded a verse for.
